Nyctivoe
Nyctivoe (2025) is an eighty-minute long cycle of small ensemble and solo works by Gregory Rowland Evans. The cycle is based on and uses text from Dimitris Lyacos’ Poena Damni. It “destroys” the source material and transforms Lyacos’ text into the invocations of a ritual, not a dramatic reenactment. Nyctivoe was a project that began with Evans’ Nyctivoe II, composed in 2024 for the Ismene Duo, AMC founders Amelia Korbitz and Liam Battle. Since then it has grown to include five more movements and expanded its forces to contrabass, flute, clarinet, soprano, and narrator.
“an earnest contemporary piece… explored the themes of uncertainty and “outsider-ness” that it intended to do.” Emilia Jacobson for the Kent Stater
